Hi, I'm Keturah
When I was really little my family lived on a third of an acre surrounded by woods, with an awesome garden my parents planted. I can clearly remember walking around the border of it feeling the corn and smelling the tomatoes. My siblings and I would play in the woods, eating delicious blackberries and huckleberries. Then, we moved to Africa where I saw the beauty (and there it was definitely a necessity) of subsistence farming. I loved the simplicity and hard work of it all. When I moved back to the states I started gardening my heart out and dug out my first garden bed by hand. It was a lot of work but I loved it. I have several gardens under my belt now and lots and lots of studying. I really enjoy learning about different gardening methods – especially permaculture, and personally use raised beds, and traditional garden beds (in the ground), edible landscaping, permaculture, lasagna gardening and hugelkultur. Oh, and no dig gardening too. It’s fun to try out all these different methods and see what kind of magic happens. I started Gardening Western Washington to share my experiences, and hopefully, inspire others to take advantage of the green spaces they have in their own backyards (and front!!) and connect with nature by growing their own gardens – small or big.
Don’t forget to enjoy the fruits of all your hard work and make a salad or too with your home grown goodness.
